Coin Crypt

Coin Crypt is a roguelike with combat resembling a card game, ala Magic the Gathering or Yu Gi Oh.

First impression is positive. Good art style, fun music. Chip tunes mostly work with the style. The gameplay is very fast, and in lieu of going through a tutorial it takes a few minutes to pick up on how things work. As a roguelike, it has some interesting card-driven elements that separate it from other roguelikes. PLAYTIME: 14 minutes

Unlocked a Wizard class, who lets me keeps coins I use at the cost of increasing how many coins get spent. Seems strong. The hectic pace of the combat is conflicting with the typical deliberate pace of a card game. Everything happens in real time, so you need to act quickly. Getting a bunk hand feels unfair, because you don’t always have time to refresh the hand and sometimes are forced to use coins you don’t want. PLAYTIME: 30 minutes

Got a couple of stages deep and found unlockable equipment that gives permanent (or at least until that character dies) bonuses. Overall, seems like a fun game for roguelike fans that are interested in slightly different combat. Good visual and audio styling if not terribly deep gameplay. PLAYTIME: 43 minutes
